Description
Devlet Hatun Tomb
The tomb belongs to Devlet Hatun, the daughter of Germiyanoğlu Süleyman Şah and the granddaughter of Mevlânâ Celâleddin-i Rûmî, the wife of Yıldırım Bayezid and the mother of Mehmed I (Çelebi).
It is also called "White Tomb" because it is built entirely of marble.
The building has a square plan. It is covered with a spiral dome inside. The tomb, which has a pointed cone covered with lead and is placed on a high drum outside and has open sides, is considered one of the last examples of Seljuk tomb architecture.
On the marble sarcophagus of Devlet Hatun, Âyete'l-Kürsî is written in relief Thuluth letters.
On the tombstone at her bedside is the following phrase in Arabic: "The sultan of the women in this shrine belongs to the chaste lady Effendi Devlet Hatun, she is the mother of the great Sultan Mehmed Khan, the son of Bayezid Khan."
On the tombstone at his feet is written "In the month of Shawwal, 816 in the Hijri year." From this article, it is understood that Devlet Hatun's death was in January 1414.
It is known that he had a lodge built in Merzifon and a mosque in a village of Amasya.
