Description
Tomb of Hamza Bey
The tomb is in the northwest corner of the courtyard of the Hamza Bey Mosque and was built in the 15th century. Hamza Bey, who was a member of the delegation sent by Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror to Wallachia in 1462, was killed along with the other members of the delegation by Voivode Vlad Tepeş (Vlad the Impaler), and his body was later brought to Istanbul and buried in Bursa. The interior of the tomb, which contains twelve sarcophagi other than Hamza Bey's, is quite plain and its mihrab is muqarnas. The tomb, which was repaired by the Bursa Antiquities Lovers Institution in 1962, was repaired together with the mosque in 2013.
Tomb of Hamza Bey's Wife and Daughters; It is known that the three sarcophagi in the tomb adjacent to the western wall of the mosque belong to Hamza Bey's wife and two daughters.
