Karacabey Eskikaraağaç Stork Village, the only representative of the European Stork Villages Network in Turkey, is an important center where storks migrating on the Europe-Africa migration route breed, rest and stay. There are stork nests within the village, and most of the maintenance of the stork nests is done by local people. At the same time, because stork families stay in the same nest every year and the maintenance of the nests is done by the local people, the stork nests are named after the local families. You can see the stork nests in the village while walking on the Stork Walking Path surrounding the village, or for a professional observation, you can visit the Uluabat Lake Bird Watching Tower and the Stork Observatory and Museum located at the entrance of the village. The International Stork Festival is held in Eskikaraağaç Village every June. There is also a bird observation tower within the Karacabey Longoz Forests.

Uncle Adem and Yaren Stork

The 9-year friendship of fisherman Adem Yılmaz, one of the residents of Eskikaraağaç Village, and a stork he named Yaren is an internationally known story. The documentary titled "Uncle Adam and Yaren Stork" also received the best documentary award at the Prague Film Awards held in the Czech Republic. The story of Adem Yılmaz and Yaren the stork, which is the subject of textbooks in Austria and Germany, was also exhibited as a shadow play in Greece. Yaren Stork, hand-fed by Adem Yılmaz, has been coming to Eskikaraağaç Village for 9 years. As of March 2020, he has come to the village for the 9th time.
