Description
Emir Khan
It was built by Orhan Gazi after the conquest of Bursa, as a part of the Orhan Complex, in order to bring income to the complex. Based on the inscription dated 1339 in the Orhan Mosque, it is known that the inn was built around this time.
Emir Khan is the first of the Ottoman khans. The names "Bezzazistan", "Old Bezzazistan", "Bey Inn", "Sultan Inn" and "Caravanserai" were also used in the sources.
The two-storey inn, which consists of a total of 74 warehouses and shops, 36 at the bottom and 38 at the top, has an inner courtyard.
Both floors are surrounded by porticoes.
During the Ottoman period, Kepenekciler who came to Bursa were obliged to stay at Emir Han. Soap was sold at the door of the inn, and an edict was given not to sell it to anyone other than the guest merchants coming to the city.
All kinds of materials, whether edible or not, bought or sold in the city, were weighed in this inn, and the weighbridge tax collected from the scales constituted the income of this inn. To the right and left of the main entrance door, there are still three seating areas called peyke reserved for weighbridge collectors.
