Description
Koza Han
Sultan II. It was built by Bayezid to bring income to his mosque and madrasah in Istanbul. The construction, which started in March 1489, was completed on 30 September 1491 and put into service. The architect of the inn is Abdulula bin Pulad Shah.
Koza Han; It was also known by names such as Yeni Han, Beylik Han, Hān-ı Cedīd-i Āmire, Hān-ı Cedīd-i Evvel, Simkeş, Sırmakeş, Beylik Kārbānsaray and Eski Yeni Han.
In accordance with the classical plan, the inn consists of a two-storey main building located around a rectangular courtyard close to a square, and İç Koza Han, a single-storey courtyard building with stables and warehouses to the east.
The inn has three entrances. It has a magnificent door at the entrance on the north façade. There is a fountain in the middle of the inner courtyard of the inn and a masjid above it.
The fact that Koza Han was built on the same line after the structures that enabled the expansion of the city such as Orhan Mosque, Emir Han and Ulucami shows that support for trade continues. Koza Han has been an international trade and shopping center since the 15th century. Traders from many different countries and nations had workplaces in Koza Han for centuries. The structure in which the cocoon market was established until recently still maintains its commercial vitality today.
It is located within the area declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
