Description
Karagöz Monument
In the 14th century, Karagöz and Hacivat were portrayed on the screen as a shadow play by Şeyh Küşteri, thus these two names became famous as two important figures of the shadow play. "Karagöz", which was born in Bursa centuries ago and spread around the world, was declared a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009 as a Turkish shadow play.
At the back of the monument, there are stones with the names of Hacivat, Karagöz and Şeyh Küşteri symbolically stating that their graves are there.
There is 'Karagöz Museum' across the street. In the museum, you can get information about the history of shadow puppetry, see temporary exhibitions with the collections of different masters, and watch Karagöz-Hacivat shadow puppetry shows.
