Description
Tirilye Stone School
Taş Mektep is one of the many school buildings built on the territory of the empire as a symbol of the modernization movements seen in the process of reforms aimed at regulating the political, social and economic structure of the Ottoman Empire in a western sense, which started with the Compensation Edict put into effect during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecit in 1839. Stone School, built between 1904 and 1909 by Chirisostomos, who was born in Tirilye and returned to Turkey as a metropolitan after studying in Greece, is one of the most magnificent buildings of Tirilye.
