Description
Somuncu Baba Mosque
It was built by Başçı Hacı Sevindik in 1407, during the reign of Yıldırım Bayezid. Başçı Hacı Sevindik had the mosque built in the name of Sheikh Hamid-i Veli (Somuncu Baba) from Aksaray, who was the mentor of Hacı Bayram Veli. It is also known as “Sheikh Hamid Mosque” or “Ayazma Mosque”.
There is a narthex at the entrance of the rectangular planned mosque. The main worship space of the mosque has a square plan.
It has a shield wall at the entrance of the mosque, which is not very high and is frequently seen in Bursa mosques.
The mosque has a small burial area adjacent to the eastern wall. There are several gravestones in the burial ground.
The mosque was restored to its original state by the Bursa Antiquities Lovers Institution in 1955 and 1971.
