Description
Historical Olive Oil Factory
During the olive harvest in Tirilye, the streets are filled with the smell of pressed olives. The historical olive oil factory in Tirilye, whose name is synonymous with olives and whose products reached the USA during the Ottoman period, is also defying the weariness of the years. During the Ottoman period, grand viziers asked the ambassadors for a list of what to eat during invitations to foreign embassies. The food that every ambassador had on their menu was the Tirilye olive... In a yearbook dated 1906, it is written that "The main production consists of olives, cocoons and various room textiles from the domestic manufacturing industry. The olive product is sent to Eastern Rumelia and the Black Sea coasts and the surroundings of Alexandria."
