Description
Karaçelebizade (Setbaşı) Mosque
It was built in 1594 by Kazasker Karaçelebizade Hüsamettin Efendi. It is also known as “Kara Çelebi Mosque”, “Kurtoğlu Mosque” and “Çavuş Mehmet Masjid”. It is also known as "Setbaşı Mosque" because it is located next to the Setbaşı Bridge.
The mosque has a rectangular plan, including the main place of worship and the final congregation place.
In the northeast of the mosque, there is a fountain, which is one of the forty fountains of Mufti water that Sheikhulislam Abdülaziz Efendi donated to Bursa.
It was repaired in 1654 by Şeyhülislam Karaçelebizade Abdülaziz Efendi, the son of Karaçelebizade Hüsamettin Efendi, who had the mosque built, and in 1813 by Bursa Governor Ahmet Aziz Pasha, from the same dynasty. It was repaired again after the 1855 earthquake and the 1863 Setbaşı fire, and was last repaired by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality in 1997.
