Description
Galle Khan
It was built in the 16th century by Semiz Ali Pasha, the Grand Vizier of Suleiman the Magnificent.
The building, originally known as Ali Pasha Carvanserai/Inn, was used to shelter and rest the carts or camels of Muslim merchants. Later, it turned into a traditional inn structure where grains were stored and sold and was named “Galle Pazarı Inn”, “Yeni Galle Pazarı Inn”, “New Grain Inn”.
Galle Inn is defined as 'Ali Pasha Caravanserai' in 'Tezkiretü'l-Ebniye', a document covering historical works built by Mimar Sinan. It is documented that the building is the only work in Bursa built by Mimar Sinan or an assistant sent under his control.
It is considered a typical two-storey classical period Ottoman Inn with its open courtyard surrounded by porticoes and two entrances.
