Description
Uludağ Fotin (Photinodios) Monastery
According to the reports of Bernardin Menthon and Osman Şevki Bey, the monastery with the highest altitude in Uludağ is the (Photinodios) Monastery.
According to a letter of St. Theoor Studit, the monastery, whose building ruins have survived to the present day, housed 180 monks in the 9th century.
The realization of such intense construction on this 1625 meter high hill, despite the difficult terrain conditions, can only be explained by the love of worship.
The fact that Kocasivri Tepe was known as Fotin even in the early years of the Republic is one of the most important traces left by the monastic heritage in Uludağ until recent history.
