Description
Balibey Khan
Fatih Sultan Mehmed and II. It was built by Bali Bey, the son of Hamza Bey, one of the statesmen of the Bayezid period, in order to generate income for his social complex consisting of a mosque and a soup kitchen in Yenişehir.
Located in the westernmost part of the Historical Bazaar and Inns Region, where commercial buildings are concentrated, Balibey Inn was also known as "Vasıf Pasha Inn" in the 19th century. Built on an area sloping towards the northeast, the east part of the building has two floors, and the part leaning on the hillside in the west has three floors. Among the inns in Bursa, it is the only inn built with three floors. The design of the inn as three-storey and with a portico on all floors around the courtyard was a very advanced practice for its period. In the early 20th century, the inn was used to accommodate stagecoaches and serve the city's postal services, and in the following years, some parts of it were used as shelters and coffeehouses.
As a result of the work initiated in 1984 to reveal the structure, it was restored by Bursa Metropolitan Municipality between 2006 and 2009.
