Bursa velvet, which was woven from Bursa silk in the 15th and 16th centuries and whose base and pile are pure silk, has spread its fame around the world because it has remained without fading or losing its pile for many years. It is known around the world as "velours de Brousse", meaning "Bursa velvet".
Velvet was a type of silk used widely in the past. Velvet is woven with patterns as well as without patterns; It was used in the production of traditional clothing and equipment such as robes, shalwars, pockets, caftans, bundles, pouches, pillows, slippers, headgear and book covers. The most famous of the velvets decorated with gold or silver threads and relief Ottoman motifs are "çatma".
