Description
Bey's Palace
Bey Palace was built by Orhan Bey, who conquered Bursa in 1326, by reorganizing and expanding the Byzantine Tekfur Palace. In the Byzantine period Hisar settlement surrounded by walls, this palace area was protected by a separate wall called the "Inner Castle".
In the plan drawn by Albert Gabriel from the 19th century, it is seen that the palace covers a rectangular area and has a total of 17 bastions, three of which are square and the others are cylindrical.
During the Ottoman period, the palace, which was used by Orhan Bey, Murad I Hüdavendigar and Yıldırım Bayezid until the beginning of the 15th century, was plundered after Yıldırım Bayezid's defeat by Timur in the Battle of Ankara, and its two-winged wooden door with metal workmanship was taken to Tabriz. The gate of the palace is today St. It is exhibited in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
The palace was damaged in the 1855 earthquake and was destroyed over time.
The wall to the west of the Tophane Clock Tower and the wall between the Army House and Tophane Industrial Vocational High School have survived from the Bey Palace to the present day.
