Description
Mayor Synagogue (Synagogue)
Mayor Synagogue was built by Sephardic Jews from the Spanish island of Mallorca, who were accepted by the Ottoman Empire and settled in Bursa in the late 15th century. This synagogue was named Mayor in memory of the island where the Jews came from.
The synagogue has a rectangular plan and its upper cover is wooden.
The synagogue, whose restoration started in 1998 by the Bursa Jewish Community Foundation, was opened for worship in 2001. After 2003, Mayor Synagogue is used by the community only for various events.
