Description
Maksem (Dusturhane) Mosque
It is written in the inscription above the entrance gate of the mosque that it was built in 1479 by Yahya, the son of Yahya Hüseyin, nicknamed Düsturhan, during the reign of Mehmed the Conqueror (1451-1481).
Since the division of water coming to Bursa used to be done here, the neighborhood was called "Maksem", which derives from the expression "water distribution place", and this name was also given to the mosque. In addition, the mosque is also known by the name "Düsturhan", which is the nickname of the person who built it.
There is a narthex at the entrance of the rectangular planned mosque.
The building was repaired by the Bursa Antiquities Lovers Institution in 1955. Only a few tombstones have survived from the western cemetery, which also contains the grave of Düsturhan's son Hoca Ali Pasha (died 1503).
